December 11, 2009, Newsletter Issue #148: Verifying Psychology Licensing Requirements

Tip of the Week

Graduates who are seeking a license to practice psychology may learn about psychology licensing requirements from a variety of resources. This may include Internet research, consultations with mentors or even casual conversations with peers. While all of these methods of learning about licensing requirements are valid and will give the graduate a good idea of the types of requirements which will be expected of him, the graduate should still take care to verify each of these requirements. The best way to do this is by contacting the state licensing board for the most up to date information on the psychology licensing requirements in the state in which the graduate wishes to practice. Most state licensing boards also have websites which include all of the relevant information for graduates applying for a license. Once a graduate feels he has completed all of the requirements, he is eligible to apply for licensure. During this time the licensing board will verify all of the information on the application and determine whether or not the candidate has successfully met all of the licensing requirements.
