Psychology Degrees for Counseling and Therapy

All Psychology Schools Tip: Something else you might want to do when considering a degree in counseling is to survey several employers who are serving the population(s) you want to work with in the settings you'd prefer, and helping people with the issues that most interest you, to get a realistic sense of what they look for in a job candidate. Query them about what type of psychology training they look for. For instance, is an online master degree in counseling acceptable? Write down what they say. You'll want to analyze the information as a whole, and memory may not serve well for this. You might be able to get some of this information from employment ads in newspapers and other places too. A college-based career counselor can also help with this, but don't avoid doing a survey yourself since the counselor may not have current information or may be biased towards the kind(s) of degrees offered by that particular school. This is important because a brick and mortar institution may steer you away from an online master degree in counseling.
