Clinical Psychology

All Psychology Schools Tip: At clinical psychology schools, you will find the emphasis is generally on psychopathology, or psychiatric disorders, as opposed to Counseling Psychology's focus on the life issues of basically well people. The discipline at clinical psychology schools includes knowledge and skills for working with or researching mental illness, adjustment and other psychological or emotional issues and developmental processes within varying cultural and other environmental circumstances. Both Clinical and Counseling Psychologists who've earned degrees at the doctoral level can be licensed to practice as Psychologists and both are trained in psychotherapy. In many states, there is also licensing or certification with a Master's level degree in Psychology too, but the designation may be called something different, such as mental health specialist or therapist, and other people trained in other related disciplines may also qualify.
